Pop up exhibition!

Student project went big!

Through the university course 'Design for creatives', few teams were creating the concepts for the Eindhoven museum pop-up exhibition. After the presentation to our client, they decided to bring the concepts to reality!
With five other students, I realized project together with SOEPS Creative Collective. The final result is the interactive pop-up exhibition containing five different installations, connected by a data saving E-chip. This pop-up exhibition was alive for two and a half years and been shown at Dutch Technology Week, Dutch Design Week, Park Hilaria, Eindhoven Airport and all around the city. This project is part of Museum door de Stad, an innovative museum concept that works through pop-up installations through the city. Designers are asked to make an interactive installation containing collections around a theme (within the big theme ‘Eindhoven’) that does not only entertain people, but also collects (anonymous) data from their visitors. The installation is an educative and fun experience for all people from all ages.

Different themes

I was working on this project for two and a half years and during that time the installations were adapted for 3 different themes:

2018-2019

The past, present and future of mobility in Eindhoven

Exhibition looking to the history of mobility in Eindhoven. What happened in the past? And what is left of that in the contemporary street scene? And what will this mean for our future?

2019

75 years of Freedom

The main goal of the exhibition is to raise discussion about important to the city questions: What has freedom meant over the years? How did we fight for our freedom in the past? The Second World War had a major impact on the city and shaped us into who we are today. What has reconstruction brought us?

2020

100 years of Eindhoven

100 years ago instead of Eindhoven city there were 7 small villages. Influenced by the industry and big companies like Philips, all seven villages were combined and the Eindhoven city was born. The exhibition is looking what king of differences in identity and culture there are between those seven villages and how the citizens of the Eindhoven percieve each one of them.

The pop-exhibition installations

Visitors E-Chip

At the beginning of the exhibition, visitors take an E-Chip and select in which language all installations will be presented. E-Chip also collects data about visitors which will be used to generate personalized souvenirs.

"Bike to the future"

2018-2019

Installation that brings you through different times to see the interesting and prefered ways of transportation. Visitor starts to ride from 17th century and cycles to the future.

"Bike to the freedom"

2019

Cycle through time and experience how different types of freedoms grew and became how it is now.

"Do you know your city?"

2020

Installation that shows different streets of the city and people needs to guess from which city district that place is.

"Wheel of opinion"

At the beginning of interaction, question is asked and visitor needs to answer it by turning the wheels. All choices corresponds on the screen which is located in the middle of the panel. The installation questions and answers are adapted to each events theme.

"Map your journey"

Comparing to the other installations this part is one and only analog installation. Exhibition visitor can show from where they came from by using a thread.

"Maze of choices"

During this side of the exhibition visitors can answer the questions by moving thei E-chips through the selected route. This is a good example, how to take simple questionnaires and transform it to some unique, fun experience. The installation is adapted to each events theme.

"Personalized souvenir"

All installations gathered data about the visitor. This anonymous data is analyzed and personalized postcard is generated and printed for the visitor to take home.

The responsibilities

With a huge enthusiasm our team started to work on this huge challenge. What was my contribution to this project? My responsibilities were - generating concepts, coding the applications and making electronics for the interactions, creating animations and graphic elements, implementing the improvements. In addition, I took responsability of this project and managed the team.

Interchangeability

Each year the theme of museum is changing. This installation can be easily adapted for different type of topic. We are really excited to bring the installations to life for each event!
